Foundation Report
Hello, and thank you for your generous support, whether by donating or signing the online petition. It’s been nearly a year since the idea of Troy Proctor’s as City Hall was sprung upon the community. We wish the City’s process had been more transparent and inclusive.
Since 2011, the Foundation’s leadership had drifted into dormancy after a 2-year effort that resulted in successfully preventing the theater from being razed to build an office building.
Last summer, a group of community leaders organized again to address this new threat to Troy Proctor’s, a national registered landmark.
The Foundation scrambled to revive, so as to advocate again for the theater by pooling expert opinions and retaining an attorney to file an Article 78 lawsuit against the City and LDC. You can read the legal petition here, which contains extensive and relevant information about the building, as well as an affidavit by architect Jack Waite in support of it. Their ‘box in a box’ design offers too little added office space to justify the resulting harm to the grand old interior over a 30-year lease. The design will cause irreversible harm to the building.
While this legal process continues, the board has been busy re-visioning and re-missioning to work as an advocate for all of Troy’s built treasures. We are also building a new web presence, along with a slew of other initiatives.
